The NW track team had a very successful season this year under the leadership of Coach David Frey. The Individual runners and relay teams had to place 4th place or better on the district level to qualify for regionals. Those placing at district this year in the girl events include Makenzie Johnson (100 m dash, 1600 m, 4 x 100 m and 4 x 200 m, 4 x 400 m relays); Monica Easley (200 m dash, 4 x 100 m and 4 x 200 m relays); J’Wanaque Triplett (400 m dash, 4 x 100 m and 4 x 200 m, and 4 x 400 m relays); Kelsey Nowell (400 m dash, 4 x 400 m relay); Essence Stricklin ( 800 m run, 4 x 400 m relay); Logan Fulcher ( 1600 m run, 4 x 400 m relay); Rylee Holdiness (3200 m run); Makinsie Clark (1600 m run); Laken Fulcher (4 x 100 m and 4 x 200 m, 4 x 400 m relays); Kara Lane Nowell (shotput and discus). First place honors went to Logan Fulcher in the 1600 m run and Rylee Holdiness in the 3200 m run. Second place honors went to Monica Easley in the 200 m dash, J’Wanaque Triplett in the 400 m dash, and Kara Lane Nowell in the discus throw. Receiving third place honors were Makenzie Johnson in the 100 m dash, Essence Stricklin in the 800 m run, Kara Lane Nowell in the shotput throw, Makinsie Clark in the 1600 m run, and the girl’s 4 x 400 m relay team with Logan Fulcher, Makinzie Johnson, Essence Stricklin, and Kelsie Nowell. Fourth place honors include Kelsey Nowell in the 400 m dash and the girl’s 4 x 100 m and 4 x 200 m relay teams made up of Monica Easley, Makenzie Johnson, Laken Fulcher, and J’Wanaque Triplett. The girl’s track team placed 2nd overall in the district. In the girl’s regional meet, held at Ridgeland, the girls placed third overall. Individuals who qualified for South State include Makenzie Johnson – 4th in the 100 m dash, Monica Easley – 3rd in the 200 m, J’wanaque Triplett – 2nd in the 400 m dash, Essence Stricklin – 3rd in the 800 m run, Logan Fulcher – 3rd in 1600 m run, Makinsie Clark – 4th in the 1600 m run, Rylee Holdiness – 1st in the 3200 m run, and Kara Lane Nowell – 3rd in shotput and 1st in the discus. Due to the second round of playoffs for fastpitch, many of the girls did not get to participate at South State. However, Kara Lane Nowell will move on to state after placing 3rd in the discus throw. Rylee Holdiness will run in the 3200 m event after finishing 4th at South State. The boys had five to qualify for regionals in four different events. Martin Johnson placed third in the 100 m dash. Montrell Easley placed 2nd in the 200 m dash. Deandre Holmes placed 1st in the 400 m dash. Receiving third in the 4 x 200 m relay was Deandre Holmes, Jamarlo Smith, Montrell Easley and Dustin Carter. At regionals Montrell Easley, Deandre Holmes, Jamarlo Smith, and Dustin Carter placed second in the events that they participated in and qualified to run at South State. At the South State events held at St. Andrews, Montrell Easely placed third in the 200 m dash and the 4 x 200 m relay team placed 4th. These qualified for the State meet at Pearl.
