It’s Elementary by Jennifer Palmer

On Friday, April 20th, the Mrs. Rogers’ TAG class attended the opera in Jackson. The Mississippi Opera provides matinees for students to promote understanding and appreciation of the performing arts. This performance was called, The Elixir of Love, by the Italian composer, Gaetano Donizetti. Mrs. Rogers said that her students enjoyed this unique experience. See msopera.org for upcoming performances. Julie Chase, from the Winston County Library, shared information with the students on April 30th about the upcoming summer library program. There will be a program each Tuesday in June. The first program will be on June 5th at the Northgate Cinema. Kids can bring money for food and drinks, but the movie tickets will be provided by the Friends of the Library. On June 5th, students are to meet at the Northgate Cinema, not the library. On June 12th, Dorian the Magician will perform at the library at 3 p.m. The Groove Club, from Nashville, TN will be there on June 19th, for a musical performance. On June 26th, Snake Man will return for a visit to captivate the “summer readers” with his educational reptile program. July 10th is Awards Day for the reading program, and there will be a 1st – 3rd place winner chosen for each grade. Registration for the summer library program begins on May 18th. We appreciate our local library’s collaboration with our schools to promote the importance of reading. On May 1st, students with perfect attendance AND good behavior were rewarded with a field trip. These exceptional students had fun bowling and eating pizza at Bulldog Lanes in Starkville. Upcoming Events May 22nd – Last day for students. This will be a 60% day.
