East Central Community College’s tennis teams were defeated by Holmes Community College and MS Gulf Coast Community College squads in recent contests.
The Warriors and Lady Warriors fell by identical 6-3 margins to Holmes Thursday, March 8.
In men’s competition, Andrew Hanna of Union and Lucas Calvert of Louisville posted wins in singles and doubles competition.
Hanna defeated Lyons 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 and Calvert clipped Gann 6-1, 6-0 in singles. Hanna and Calvert also teamed to win their doubles match over Lyons/Parker 8-3.
Hanna is a product of Newton County Academy and Calvert is a graduate of Neshoba Central High School.
In other men’s singles results, Levi French of Union fell to Hale, 6-0, 6-0; Blake Cochran of Newton County fell to Boxx, 6-4, 6-0; Chris Mayes of Louisville fell to Custode, 6-1, 6-0; and Josh Peoples of Leake Academy fell to Tedford 6-1, 6-2.
Cochran and Peoples were edged 9-7 in their doubles match with Custode/McCumber, and French and Mays dropped an 8-3 decision to Hale/Box.
In women’s singles, Cassie Munn defeated White 6-3, 6-0 and Claire Tadlock blanked Applewhite 6-0, 6-0. Munn and Tadlock are products of Newton County High School.
In other women’s singles, Lauren Lurk of Newton County fell to Shields 6-3, 6-0.
Munn and Lurk teamed to win their doubles match over White/Shields, 8-3.
In matches with MS Gulf Coast held March in Perkinston, the Warriors fell 7-2 and the Lady Warriors were defeated 8-1.
In men’s singles, Hanna defeated Bell 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 and Calvert clipped Gann 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.
In other results, French lost to A. Puyol 6-2, 6-2; Cochran lost to L. Puyol 6-2, 6-0; Mays lost to Burdick 6-0, 6-2; and Peoples fell to Wolfe, 6-3, 6-0.
The Warriors dropped all three doubles matches, as French and Mays fell to A. Puypol/L. Puyol, 8-0; Cochran and Peoples lost to Purdick/Bell, 8-1; and Calvert and Hanna were edged by Wolf/Baughman, 8-6.
In women’s singles, Tadlock was the lone winner as she defeated Grautham 6-2, 6-7 (10-8).
In other results, Munn lost to Fisher 6-1, 6-0; and Lurk fell to Boss 6-1, 6-0.
Munn and Lurk fell to Fisher/Boss 8-3 in the only doubles match.
The Lady Warriors and Warriors travel to Jones County Junior College Tuesday, March 20. Competition begins at 2 p.m. on the Ellisville campus.
