Local soldier promoted to Major

On February 4, 2012, Captain Leonard (Lee) R, Frederick, Jr. of the 255 th Air Control Squadron/ Mississippi Air National Guard was promoted to the rank of Major in the United States Air National Guard. Major Frederick was promoted upon successful completion of Squadron Officer’s School. Squadron Officer’s School is the United States Air Force’s premier officer training course and is a mandatory requirement for promotion to Major in the Untied States Air Force and the Mississippi Air National Guard. Lieutenant Colonel Michael R. Ouellette, Commander of the 255th Air Control Squadron, Gulfport, MS officiated the ceremony and initiated the written order promoting Captain Frederick to Major. In attendance at the ceremony, were Major Frederick’s parents: Sergeant First Class Johnny C. McLeod (Retired- US Army) and his wife Paulette of Louisville, MS and Brigadier General Leonard R. Frederick (Retired- US Air Force) and his wife Johnnie of Gautier, MS. Major Frederick’s son Tyler R. Frederick was also present at the ceremony. The new Rank was pinned on Major Frederick’s dress blue jacket by his Step-Father Sergeant First Class Johnny C. McLeod (Retired – US Army) and his son Tyler R. Frederick. New Major boards were placed on his Class A uniform by his Mother Paulette S. McLeod and his Step-mother Johnnie L. Frederick. Lastly Major Frederick received the “Oath of Office” to support and defend the constitution of the United States and the State of Mississippi from his Father Brigadier General Leonard R. Frederick (Retired- US Air Force). Major Leonard (Lee) R. Frederick, Jr. is a 1990 graduate of Noxapater High School and a 1996 and 2000 graduate of Mississippi State University. Major Frederick is the son of Johnny and Paulette McLeod of Louisville, MS and Lenny and Johnny Frederick of Gautier, MS. Major Frederick is the grandson of Mildred McLeod and the “Late” John C. McLeod of Louisville, MS and the grandson of the “Late” Frank and Dorothy Klemm of New Orleans, LA, and the “Late” Raymond Frederick of Indiana. Major Frederick currently lives in Madison, MS where he works full time as an Industry Investigator for the US Department of Justice/Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).
