LHS sweep Noxubee Co. in series; host tournament

The Louisville High School baseball team was busy this past week, playing a pair of games against the Noxubee County Tigers. Also the team held their annual tournament this past weekend. The Wildcats hosted the Tigers on Mar. 27 in division play. Starting pitcher for the Wildcats was Ross Barnett. In the first inning, Barnett made quick work of the Tigers first three batters, including a strikeout. In the bottom of the secondt, the Wildcats would have their bats swinging as they went through their lineup almost twice before the end of the inning. Louisville got RBI’s from Darius Miller, A.J. Triplett, Braxton Wall, and Dalton Hudspeth. At the end of the 1st inning, the Wildcats had a decisive 11-1 lead. In the top of the second inning, Barnett went back to work as he struck out two more batters, and sat down the side. In the bottom of the second, it was all Wildcats again as they got RBI’s from Dylan Nicholson and Wall. They also received help from the Tigers’ pitchers, who walked a number of Wildcat batters. At the end of the second inning, the Wildcats increased their lead to 16-1. In the top of the third, Barnett continued his dominance and allowed no runs to score on his watch. In the bottom of the third, the Wildcats slowed their pace and the score remained 16-1. LHS head coach Justin Reed then begin to let some of his younger players get some experience and playing time, and the Wildcats went on to win 17-2. The second game of the series was supposed to be played last Friday at Noxubee Co. However, weather delayed the playing of the game until Monday. Louisville then hosted their tournament this past Saturday on a beautiful Spring day. Teams that participated in the tournament were Neshoba Central and Amory. Each team played two games. In the end, Louisville defeated Amory and lost to Neshoba Central. Neshoba Central defeated Amory and Louisville, while Amory lost both of their games. Up next for the Wildcats was the make-up game against Noxubee Co. this past Monday. The Wildcats would repeat the same success, as they went on to defeat the Tigers 18-3. The Wildcats are currently 6-12 overall and 2-4 in division play. They will play a series against Leake Central beginning on Apr. 3. They will play at home on Apr. 3, and will travel to Leake Central on Apr. 5. Both games will be division contests.
