It¹s Elementary

The Box Tops collection goal for this year at Fair was 10,000. We have already exceeded our goal and submitted 11,979  Box Tops. The Box Tops are mailed in twice a year to the General Mills company, and checks are issued to the school.  Each Box Top is worth 10 cents, but the rewards multiply when everyone works together as they have this year.  Thanks to all the students, families, and  members of the community who support our school by clipping, saving, and submitting Box  Tops.  They will not be mailed in again until fall, so you can save your collection until  then,  or submit them  at any time.
There was an overwhelming response to our invitation for adults  to read to  our students on Read Across America Day. City, county, and state leaders, as well as parents and friends, volunteered and read books in the classrooms in recognition of Dr.  Seuss’ birthday.  The children  were  thrilled with the visitors, and the teachers and staff were  honored to see so many support  the significance of reading and literacy.  There are far too many volunteers to name, but thank-you to ALL who took time out of  their  schedules for the benefit of the children.  A special thank-you to Mrs. Dinah Smith for her hard work coordinating the event.
The Louisville Municipal School Family Center hosted a free Health Fair on Monday, March 5th.  There were nearly 50 participants, which is a good turnout, considering the event only lasts for three hours. Penny Bowman from Dr. Clifton’s optometry office performed vision screenings. I performed blood pressure checks. Officer Tonya McWhirter, D.A.R.E. instructor for the Louisville Police Department, provided information on drug abuse issues.   Leigh Lamkin, Project Director for  the MS  Tobacco Free Coalition for Attala, Leake, and Winston counties, had a booth with tobacco prevention resources.   She also provided information to participants about tobacco cessation. Wendy Young, from Winston Medical Center, performed blood sugar and cholesterol screenings. Thank-you all for your help and to Marie Livingston & Rochelle Jordan for coordinating the annual event.
Pre-K registration will be held March 27-29 at Fair Elementary.  The registrants will need to be 4 years old on or before September 1st, 2012 to be eligible and will need  to be present for the registration  process.  Please bring the following to register: the child’s shot record, social security card, birth certificate, and 2 proofs of legal residence.
