The Noxapater High School fast-pitch softball team had three tough
games in four days last week, dropping all three.
The Lady Tigers fell to Nanih Waiya 4-1 in their regular season
finale last Wednesday, finishing second in the district. That meant
Noxapater had to turn around and travel to the Mississippi River on
Thursday to take on Natchez Cathedral, where the Lady Tigers dropped
an 8-6 decision. Noxapater then saw its season come to an end when it
fell to Cathedral 9-1 at home on Saturday.
“We had a great year and were much more competitive throughout the
year,” said Noxapater head coach Jodie Duran. “Our seniors will
surely be missed, yet I’m expecting good things from our
underclassmen next year.”
Anna Claire Webb had a double for Noxapater against Nanih Waiya,
while Chelsea Moore and Treasure Lynch picked up a single each.
Noxapater was ahead twice against Cathedral on Thursday, but couldn’t
hold on. Moore ripped a two-run homer and a double to lead the Lady
Tigers at the plate, while Hanna Hamilton, Lynch and Webb had two
Kiera Phillips had three hits for Noxapater in Saturday’s 9-1 loss,
while Madelyn Wilkes spanked a triple and Madison Barnett, Hamilton,
Lynch and Haley Pierce had a single each.
Five errors in the first inning of Saturday’s game put the Lady
Tigers into a hole they couldn’t dig out of.
