Louisville High School Boys and Girls track and field team take second

The Louisville High School Boys and Girls track and field team take
2nd at the Mississippi High School Class 4A, District 4 meet
Wednesday at Kosciusko High School.

Teams scores for both meets weren’t available. In a field of heavy
competition the meet featured Kosciusko, Houston, Leake Central,
Caledonia, and Noxubee Co. the winner in both boys and girls. The top
four finishers in each event advanced to the Class 4A-Region 3 meet,
which will be Saturday, April 27 at Mississippi Valley State.

On the boys side, Tyrekius Carter teamed with Raquel Graham, Desmond
Goss, and Demarcus Brooks to win the 4×100-meter relay in a time of
43.94 seconds. He also won the triple jump with a jump of (40-00.50).
Desmond Goss and Demarcus Brooks tagged team a 1st and 2nd place
finish in both the 100m and 200m Dash. Goss was first on the 100 with
a time of (11.19) followed by Brooks (11.26). Not to be out done was
Brooks who came out with a first place first in the 200m posting only
the 3rd fastest time in 4A (.) on the season. Brooks was followed
closely by Goss’s time of (22.62) for his 2nd place finish.

Darius Dora took second-place in the 400m (54.01) along with Dontae
Jones’ fourth place (54.95) , teamed with Roderick Roberts and Ty
Carter to help the 4×400 relay team take second (3:45.60). In the
4x200m Relay Lakendrick Vaughn teamed with Ty Carter, Demarcus
Brooks, and Desmond Goss for a first-place finish with a time of
(1:30.85). Demester Harrington took 4th in the 800m Run (2:20.11).
Nick Shields and Dominique Woodard took 2nd and 4th respectfully in
the 110 hurdles with times of (16.20) and (17.07). The duo doubled
that performance with a 2nd and 3rd place finish in the 300 hurdles
(42.21 Woodard, 43.05 Shields). Malik Slaughter was fourth in the
shot put (39-05).

On the girls side, Larickie Ball and Umunique Waldrip (7th grader)
started the qualifying day off with third and fourth place finishes
in 110 hurdles (19.91,20.51). Shan Thames took third in the 100m Dash
(12.71) after posting her personal best of 12.39 in the qualifying
heat. She also won second in the 200m Dash with a time 26.34.
Louisville girls 4x200m Relay placed second (1:51.36). The relay team
was anchored by Thames, teamed with Danaisha Jones, Diamond Wraggs,
and Marquesha Davis .

The team of Larickie Ball, Markeesha Triplett, Shan Thames and
Marquesha Davis placed second in 4x100m Relay (53.51). Tamia Dora,
one of two seventh graders to qualify for regionals, won first place
in the 800 (2:45.80). Dora then teamed with Marquesha Davis, Daniasha
Jones, and Diamond Wraggs in the 4x400m relay to place second
(4:39.89). Daniasha Jones placed third in the 400m Dash with a time
of 1:06.67. Marquesha Davis placed second in the triple jump with a
28-10ft jump.
Jaqual Johnson was the lone qualifier in both the Shot Put and
Discus. She placed 3rd in Shot put (28-04.00) and 4th in Discus (79-01).

The Wildcats will send a total of 22 athletes to compete at
Regional’s. This year 2013 track team consists of 4 seniors, 11
juniors, 7 sophomores, 9 freshmen, and 8 seventh and eighth graders
that competed on the varsity level.
