Phyllis Graham and Steven Moss were all about making a positive
impact on the lives of students.

Two years after the tragic deaths of the two Ackerman High School
teachers in a bus accident on a school trip, their friends and co-
workers are continuing to keep their legacy alive by raising funds to
award scholarships to AHS students who are college-bound.

One of those fund-raisers is a benefit golf tournament which will be
held at Ackerman County Club on Saturday, April 13. The Moss-Graham
Tournament is a 27-hole three-man scramble that is set to begin at 8
a.m.

“Those two people touched a lot of lives in a lot of ways around
here,” said Gary Beals, coordinator of the golf tournament. “They had
a great impact on the community.”

Beals said this would be the third year the tournament has been held
and noted that the community had been overwhelmingly supportive.

“This is strictly a benefit to help raise funds for the scholarship
and it would not be possible without the help of the local community
as well as everywhere from Starkvile to Louisville to Eupora.
Everybody has just really stepped up and made it a success.”

Beals said that he was hoping for 20 teams to take part in the event
at the nine-hole course. He said the first nine holes would be used
to set flights and he was hoping for at least three flights with
prizes awarded in each flight, which are provided by local sponsors.

The entry fee is $50 per person or $150 for a three-person team. A
meal and refreshments will be available during the day.

Tee-shirts are also being sold and are available for $12 each. They
must be ordered by this Friday. They are gray with gold lettering,
highlighted in maroon.
