basketball coaches with teams in the NCAA Tournament were from
It’s easy to understand why national sports media types may have had
to do a double-take however, when they discovered that the Louisville
called home by Ole Miss men’s basketball coach Andy Kennedy and
University of Kentucky women’s coach Matthew Mitchell is in
Mississippi, not Kentucky.
Both men’s teams have gained a lot of attention so far in the
postseason, with the Ole Miss Rebels winning the SEC Tournament, then
knocking off No 5-seed Wisconsin in their opening game of the NCAA
Tournament before dropping a tough 76-74 loss to LaSalle in the round
of 32 on Sunday night.
The Lady Wildcats of UK are one of four No. 2 seeds in the NCAA
Women’s Tournament and beat Navy 61-41 on Sunday in the opening round
of the tourney. Kentucky put its 28-5 mark on the line against Dayton
in a second-round game on Tuesday night.
If Kentucky were to get hot and reach the Women’s Final Four,
Mitchell would get to coach his Lady Wildcats a little closer to
home, as the games are set for New Orleans on April 7 and April 9.
