Refuge to begin controlled burns

From press reports

Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge plans controlled
burns to improve habitat and reduce wildfire danger today through
April in Noxubee, Oktibbeha, and Winston Counties. The controlled
burns will remove overly crowded vegetation that does not provide
good wildlife habitat and will help eradicate invasive species.

Fires are planned in habitats used by the public for both hunting and
wildlife observation. Burning will be done when weather allows the
best management of smoke. All control burns are first light after 9
AM and fire staff will be checking the area with mornings first light.
