As students enjoy their Spring Break holiday, softball teams for Winston County schools completed the first part of their regular season schedules.
Louisville Lady
Wildcats
The Lady Wildcats began their season at the Winston County Classic in Noxapater on Feb. 24-25. Their first opponent in the tournament was in-county rival Nanih Waiya. After a hard fought battle, the Lady Warriors defeated the Lady Wildcats 7-5.
The Lady Wildcats’ next game in the tournament was against another in-county rival, the Lady Tigers of Noxapater. In another heated battle, the Lady Wildcats were able to come out on the winning end of an 11-8 game.
Up next for the Lady Wildcats was a trip to Philadelphia to face the Lady Tornadoes on Feb. 27. Both teams brought their game and after a close game the Lady Wildcats got the 6-5 victory on the road.
Nanih Waiya Lady
Warriors
The Lady Warriors began their season by participating in the Kosciusko Jamboree on Feb. 17-18. Their opponent was the Ackerman Lady Indians. In a close game, the Lady Warriors came out with a 7-6 win over Ackerman.
Next up for the Lady Warriors was a trip to Noxapater to participate in the Winston County Classic on Feb. 24-25. Their first game in the tournament was against arch rival Noxapater. The Lady Warriors made an impressive showing as they defeated their in-county rival 14-1. They would follow this with the loss to Louisville.
The Lady Warriors’ next game would be at home against Kosciusko on Mar. 5. They would have no problem handling the Lady Whippets, claiming an 11-1 victory. The following day, the Lady Warriors would host East Webster. In a close game, the Lady Warriors would get another win by the score of 3-2.
The Lady Warriors would then travel to Philadelphia on Mar. 8 to face Choctaw Central. In the battle of the Warriors, Nanih Waiya would handle Choctaw Central 7-3 for another win.
On Mar. 9-10, the Lady Warriors would travel to Maben to participate in the East Webster Tournament. Their first game in the tournament was against Class 4A Houston. The Lady Warriors could not keep up with the 4A squad, losing 10-4. Their next match was against hosting team East Webster. In their second meeting of the season, the Lady Timberwolves would even up the series as they defeated Nanih Waiya 8-5.
The next game for the Lady Warriors will be on the road when they travel to Union on Mar. 19. Scores for this game will be posted in the Mar. 21 edition of the Winston County Journal.
Noxapater Lady Tigers
After losses in the Winston County Classic, the Noxapater Lady Tigers traveled to East Webster to face the Timberwolves on Feb. 28. The Lady Tigers would not fare so well, as they were defeated 23-3 by the Lady Timberwolves.
The Lady Tigers will try to get back on the winning path after Spring Break when they host their first division game of the season against West Lowndes on Mar. 19. Scores for this game will be posted in the Mar. 21 edition of the Winston County Journal.
