Supervisors tackle regular business after MLK day

The Winston County Board of Supervisors convened to cover almost two dozen items before ending the first month of business in 2013.

The board in the Tuesday, January 22 approved payments on the work on the roof for the Teters Facility. The work continues on the roof repair of the building with Mississippi Development Authority funds covering part of the cost and funds collected from the lease to cover the remaining part of the repairs. The Supervisors in the lease contract agreed to maintain and repair the building with Teters also putting up funds to maintain and repair the building.

In other business, the supervisors: • Approved cash in bank report • Approved January 7 board minutes • Discussed road projects in the county with county engineer Jimmy Kemp. • Approved request from Coroner Scott Gregory to purchase disaster supplies. • Discussed the finalization of the lease purchase of a truck for District 4. •Heard from Carnette Hudson on the N-Fusion groups work in the area. See related article in Feb. 6 edition. Approved a sales transfer from District 1 to District 2 of a Silverado Chevrolet truck. Approved the solid waste hold of tags in the county. Approved expenses for circuit court. Approved Justice Court expenses for Caroline Moore. Approved payment for Sheriff’s Department checks. Approved a plan to pay the city a set monthly payment for tipping fees and reconcile the difference at the end of each year with one billing. Approved interlocal agreement with the city to house city prisoners at the cost of $25 a day. Approved $5,000 for a community garden education program to be set up by Winston County Extension office. See today’s edition for more details. Approved $5,000 for Soil and Conservation office for beaver control. Approved paying a $45 bill for repairs at health department and discussed a possible letter to the health department on how maintenance cost should be handled. Approved court reporter expenses. Approved the reappointment of Ben Kirk to Airport Board. Discussed homestead items with Tax Assessor. Approved Sixteen Section lease with 3 to 1 vote with Michael Peterson abstaining and Supervisor Luke Parkes voting against. Discussed items at the Winston Choctaw Regional Correctional Facility including personnel and equipment.

The board will meet again on Feb. 4.
