ECCC forums underway

From staff and press reports

East Central Community College is hosting a series of public forums to help build a vision for its future and held its Louisville forum Wednesday, January 16 at Lake Tiak O’Khata.

“We’re really looking forward to getting all the input and taking it back and combing through it to developing a great plan for ECCC,” said ECCC President Billy W. Stewart.

Over 55 community members visited with the booths set up to gather information in the areas of student success, resource planning, community partnership and teaching and learning.

“We are excited to bring the college out to the community and get clear direction on the future,” said Dr. Stewart.

The information received from the forums will be used to assist the College in its strategic planning process titled 20/20 Vision.

“We all know East Central has affected the lives of countless individuals who would otherwise not have had the opportunity to achieve their educational goals,” said Dr. Stewart, who began serving as the College’s eighth president in July 2012. “However, while we celebrate our storied past, we must also plan for a bright future.”

Dr. Stewart said the term 20/20 Vision is used “to provide a clear picture of where we are headed and what we want to achieve by the year 2020. So far, this process has included a review of the College’s mission and core values in order to solidify institutional commitments necessary to achieve our vision.”

Dr. Stewart is hoping residents of the other local communities will respond to the College’s request for feedback on the future of ECCC and was glad to receive such great support from the Winston County community at the recent forum.
