Lt. Gov. Reeves to address ECCC’s GED graduates

Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves will be the featured speaker when East Central Community College holds its semi-annual GED® Graduation Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, on the Decatur campus.

The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. in Huff Auditorium.

Reeves, a Rankin County native, was elected Mississippi’s Lieutenant Governor in 2011 on a platform that included improving educational achievement for students.

Previously, he was elected Mississippi’s 53rd Treasurer in 2003 and was re-elected to a second team four years later with 61 percent of the vote, the highest percentage of any candidate running for statewide office. He was the first Republican treasurer in the state’s history.

Also scheduled to speak are GED® graduates Johnathon Scott of Carthage and Ashly Thompson of Forest, who will give testimonials.

ECCC President Dr. Billy Stewart will also provide remarks.

Other program participants include Dr. Teresa Houston, vice president for instruction; Len Bobo, music instructor; and Bryan Burt, who serves as an Adult Basic Education/GED® instructor.

Approximately 35 students are expected to receive their high school equivalency diplomas, according to Ryan Clarke, director of Adult Basic Education and GED.
