By Press Reports

Lance Corporal Brittany Fancher was recently promoted to the rank of Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. Corporal Fancher’s promotion ceremony was held on 2 November 2012 just eight days before the Marine Corps’ 237th Birthday. Her promotion took place at the Unit Marine Air Support Squadron One at Marine Air Wing, Cherry Point, North Carolina. Attending the ceremony were the Marines of Corporal Fancher’s Company and her husband, Lee Fancher.

Gunnery Sergeant Evans, the Company’s First Sergeant read her promotion warrant which was issued by the Unit’s Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Sanchez. He also read the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) creed which is what the NCO should use as a guideline to lead his/her Marines.

The next step that took place was the old rank chevrons of Lance Corporal were taken off of Fancher’s collar and her new rank was pinned by Sergeant Rosalez and Corporal Stassin. The chevrons were given to her by Sergeant Rosalez while stationed in Afghanistan.

Corporal Fancher will be in charge of all Marines that are of lesser rank than herself. She is one of only two female Corporals in her Company. Along with the rank of Corporal, the Marine earns the right to have the NCO Sword, which is very significant to the Marines. On 16 November 2012, Corporal Fancher was honored to be the only Corporal in her Unit to be on the Sword Detail for the Marine Corps Ball in Greenville, North Carolina.

Corporal Fancher will be attending a Corporal’s Course during January- February 2013. This course will prepare her for her next rank which will be Sergeant. The course will provide Corporal Fancher with knowledge of how to drill with the NCO Sword, Leadership Skills, Marine Corps History, Military Customs and Courtesies, how to properly instruct a class, how to lead your Marines in Physical Fitness, etc.

Corporal Brittany Fancher is the wife of Lee Fancher formerly of Louisville and a prior Marine. She is the daughter of Ernie and Donna McKay of Ackerman; granddaughter of Bobby McKay and the late Dorothy (Dot) McKay and the late Homer and Lena Pearl Duran, all of Louisville. She is also the daughter-in-law of Bro. Phil (pastor of Antioch Baptist Church, Sturgis) and Mary Fancher of Louisville.
