MLK parade and event set for Jan.19

The Winston County Branch of the NAACP will celebrate the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday Saturday, January 19.

Parade participants will line up at the coliseum at 9:00 A.M. with the parade starting promptly at 10:00 A.M. Parade entry fee is $5.00.

Immediately following the parade, at approximately 11 A.M there will be a short program at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 142 Union Chapel Road. The speaker will be Dr. K. C. Morrison, Professor and Head Dept. of Political Science and Public Administration at Mississippi State University.

Professor Morrison focuses on both Comparative Politics and American Politics, and specializes in Africa and Third World politics as well African American and Mississippi politics. He received his PhD and MA degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Morrison also received a Certificate of African Studies from the University of Ghana in Africa, and holds a BA degree with Honors from Tougaloo College. Morrison has served as an Associate Professor of Afro- American Studies and Political Science and as Chairman of Afro- American Studies at Syracuse University in New York, and comes to MSU from the University of Missouri, where he was Vice Provost for Minority Affairs and Faculty Development, and most recently the Frederick Middlebush Professor of Political Science. Professor Morrison is the new head of the MSU Political Science and Public Administration Department.
