Mrs. Bobbie Jean Veazey December 27, 2012 Funeral services for Bobbie Jean Veazey, 80, were held at 11 a.m. on December 29, 2012 at Coleman Funeral Home Chapel in Ackerman with Rev. Curtis Guess officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Moriah Baptist Church near Weir.
Ms. Veazey was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. She died on December 27, 2012 at Pioneer Community Hospital in Ackerman.
Survivors include sons Alan Write Edmonds; Tony Nathaniel Edmonds and Stepson; Charles Elwyn Veazey and Step Daughters, Linda Sue Nevens and Brenda K. Stone; brother, James “Bubba” Weeks of Weir, MS and a sister, Wilma Steed of Indianola, MS. Ms. Veazey also had numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ms. Reece was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. Ms. Reece died on Sunday, December 23, 2012.
Survivors include a son; James Reece of Grenada, MS; son, John Reece of Weir, MS; and son, Tommy Reece of Starkville, MS. a brother and sister, Wayne King and Gloria King, both of Weir, MS. Ms. Reece also had 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Willie Mae Blackwood December 25, 2012 Willie Mae Blackwood, 88, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at the Union County Health and Rehab in New Albany, MS. She was born June 23, 1924 to Tommie Lou Black Collier and Plezie Collier in Choctaw County.
Services were 11 AM, Friday, December 28, 2012 in the chapel of Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS. Bro. Rob Faulk officiated and burial was in Enon Cemetery.
She served as Election Commissioner for many years and owned and operated Blackwood’s Grocery in Ackerman, MS. She also managed Fentress Grocery for many years. She was a faithful member of Chester Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Sarah Frances Stacy of New Albany; two sons, Alvin Reed McHan, Jr. of Hernando and Douglas Allen McHan of Ackerman; one brother, James Collier of Ackerman; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Earnest Stevenson Mr. Earnest “Spark Plug” Stevenson, 85, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Born on August 15, 1927, Mr. Stevenson was a member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church. He was a retired school bus driver for Choctaw County Schools. Mr. Stevenson is survived by four daughters: Sherry Burton of Louisville, Mississippi; Shelia Burton of McCool; Gena Stevenson of Madison; and Sylvia Reed also of Louisville; and two sons, Kenny Stevenson; and Stevie Stevenson all of McCool. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Fortenberry, 70, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Choctaw Residential Center. She lived in the Arlington Community most of her life before going into the nursing home. Her occupation was working in garment factories. She enjoyed reading, sewing and cooking. She was a member of Edinburg United Pentecostal Church.

Mrs. Catherine McGahey Smyth, 93, died Sunday, December 23, 2012, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville. Funeral services were held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 26th, at Louisville Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Sandra Sisson and Rev. Chris Kiepe officiating. Interment was in Masonic Cemetery. Mrs. Smyth was born October 25, 1919, in Winston County, MS. She was a graduate and valedictorian of Bond High School. She was a founding member of Lake Tiak O’Khata Resort. She was an artist, and painted into her 90’s; and was an invited member of the American Society of Botanical Artists. She was a longtime member of Louisville Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Smyth; her parents, Ora Bell Kelley and W. C. McGahey; and a brother, C. C. “Lucky” McGahey. She is survived by a daughter, B. J. Kelleghan of Louisville; a son, Charles (Beverly) Smyth of Louisville; three grandchildren, Leslie Charles Smyth, Catherine Kelleghan McGee, and Lee Smyth; and four great grandchildren.

Larry Paul Sones, 70, of Brandon, died December 26, 2012. A Memorial Service was held at 11am. on Sat. Dec. 29, 2012 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with visitation being held prior to the service from 9 am.-10:45 am.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sones of Eupora.
Honorary Pallbearers were his sons, Mitch Sones, Michael Sones, and Will Sones; his sons-in-law, Troy Nunn and Rob Ormsby and his nephews, Paul Sones and Brian Woodruff.
Larry was an Alpha Tau Omega at Mississippi State University and member of the School of Architecture’s first graduating class. He practiced architecture for over 35 years and owned Larry Sones, Architects. Although he built and designed a variety of commercial buildings, his specialty was houses of worship. He loved his work and serving his Lord. Larry was an active member of First Assembly of God in Jackson.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathy Woodruff Sones; three sons, Mitchell, Michael, and Will Sones; three daughters, Kelly Ormsby, Kimberly Nunn, and Deanna Sones; and brother Pete Sones, of Daphne, Alabama. Larry has seven grandchildren, Precious Sones, Hannah and Emily Abdou, Ian Ormsby, and Olivia, Tyler, and Stella Nunn.

Mrs. Elsie Fulgham, 67, passed away on December 23, 2012, at her residence in Louisville, Mississippi, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation was Wednesday, December 26, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, December 27, 2012, with Rev. Justin Wilcher officiating. Interment followed in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Fulgham was born on June 25, 1945, to James B. and Ina Mae Chamblee Jackson. She was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church and she enjoyed volunteering through the Hospital Auxiliary in the Gift Shop at Winston Medical Center. She worked at Community Counseling Services in Program Assistance.
She is survived by her two daughters, Amanda Cornett of Louisville, Mississippi, and Misty Thompson and husband, Brian, of Novi, Michigan; her son, Tommy Fulgham and wife, Tammy; her mother, Ina Mae Jackson all of Louisville; and two brothers, Jimmy Jackson and wife, Helen Marie, also of Louisville, and Jeff Jackson and wife, Wanda, of Winfield, Alabama. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Katy and Ben Thompson, Tyler Burnham, and Trent Fulgham; as well as three nephews, one niece, five great-nieces, and one great-nephew.
Mrs. Fulgham was preceded in death by her father, James B. Jackson.

Mr. Pete Arnold, 74, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2012, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation was at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Thursday, December 27, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Born on June 21, 1938, Mr. Arnold was a member of First Apostolic Church of Louisville. He was a businessman and enjoyed his career as a real estate professional. He was a member of the Mississippi Real Estate Commission and he answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Navy in the Post Korean and the Vietnam Wars.
Pete is survived by wife of 50 years, Patricia “Pat” Arnold of Louisville; his daughter, Teresa Hazel Fovel and husband, David, of Rochester, New York; and two sons, Ralph Arnold and wife, Georgia, of Elkmont, Alabama, and Aaron H. Arnold of Louisville. He is also survived by two sisters, Rose M. Hollingsworth of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Hazel James and husband, Mike, of Lakewood, California; and three brothers, Gerald Rivera and wife, Angela, Hal M. Arnold and wife, Laurie, and Danny Arnold and wife, Carolyn, all of Louisville. Pete has four grandchildren, Christopher Fovel, Samantha Fovel, Gregory Fovel, and Timothy Fovel; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Luz Almodovar Rivera.
