The twelve days of Christmas have until January 6th before ending. However, the week between December 25th and December 31st have a slower pace giving everyone a needed break.
Kathleen Hatcher UpShaw and Sandra and Emily Holdiness hosted the December Meeting of Winston Guards #2643 United Daughters of the Confederacy in the Colonial Room of Lake Tiak O’Khata on the 2nd Monday. The hostesses did a wonderful job of decorating the meeting room.
Using classic glassware and ceramic figurines that belong to Kathleen Hatcher UpShaw the tables were tastefully set up in a Christmas theme.
One table was graced with a nativity scene complete with a stable replica that Rodney Stokes was called upon at the last minute to build. The original stable had crumbled, unknown to Kathleen. The baby Jesus was replaced on the day of the meeting, having been ordered by Gidget Mills by her boss, Cotton Stokes.
Kathleen has some nice kin folks! The Stokes family.
Two beautiful arrangements, one on the punch table and one on the piano added to the Christmas theme.
Sandra Holdiness and her daughter Emily served a delightful punch and delicious ho d’oeuvres from a punch table overlaid in red from a lovely red punch bowl with matching cups.
The UDC ladies were entertained by “Steady On” voice students of Teresa Ingram.
These talented young singers were dressed in costume and delivered an inspiring program; Chandler, Johnson and Abby Wells, Nicole Roberson, Harley Thomas, Makenna Foster and Marly McMillan.
“Steady On” also performed at several venues during the holidays including nursing homes and several churches.
Connie Estes delivered the gifts brought to the UDC meeting for the State Veteran’s Home. She was not allowed to visit because of the flu virus being prevalent, so left the gifts to be delivered by the staff.
A wonderful Christmas program with gifts and refreshments was sponsored by the Winston Garden Club at Winston Nursing Home Green Thumb Garden Club Meeting. Mary Tabor accompanied by her sister Brenda Hunt sang Christmas melodies for entertainment.
Enjoying the Green Thumb Program were several members of Winston Garden Club; Mary Rose Moore, Janice Dill, Betty Sullivan, Shelia Hickman and also family members of Mrs. Frances Tabor and Mary’s children – perhaps others. Sorry I missed it!
Brenda Hunt hosted the Winston Garden Club December Meeting in the Colonial Room of Lake Tiak 0’Khata. All members brought wrapped gifts to be given to the members of Green Thumb Garden Club.
A lovely program of music was enjoyed by the club. Gail Wekenman sang a couple of solos accompanied by Brenda and then led the group singing Christmas favorites. Mary Snow brought her daughter with her, Cajun rendition of “Twas The Night Before Christmas”. After a wonderful Christmas dinner, the members enjoyed a game of Yankee Swap with the ornaments each brought. Three door prizes were given out by hostess Brenda Hunt.
A happy prosperous New Year to all. A healthy New Year is a better wish!
Sympathy goes out to all who have lost loved ones during the past year.
