LMSD awards district reading fair winners

From staff reports

The Louisville Municipal School District recently held its annual District Reading Fair. The first place winners from each school participated against one another for a chance to earn the first place in the district and an opportunity to travel to the regional fair and then onto the state reading fair in Jackson.

Penny Hill, LMSD Reading Fair Coordinator, welcomed the students, parents, and other supporters for the district reading fair. Hill recognized all the students as winners and their hard work.

“Thank all for participating and hard work,” said Hill.

The goal of the fair is to instill a lifelong love of reading in students as they experience a deeper enjoyment and pleasure from reading gained through participating in the process. Students may enter one of three categories: individual, group project or family project. With each category, students are judged in divisions based on grade level.

District winners will be able to advance to the Regional Reading Fair at a location to be determined by the Mississippi Department of Education. Regional Fairs will be set for February-March, 2013. The regional winners in each category will advance to the State Reading Fair, which will be scheduled for May, 2012, at the Department of Education in Jackson. First, second, third place and honorable mention winners are also awarded at the state level competition.
