Class learns about democracy and local, state government

From staff reports

Holly Preston’s third grade class at Fair Elementary prior to the November election received some direct learning about democracy and all levels of government in the country.

Preston used the presidential election contest between President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as an opportunity to teach about how the election process works, who can vote and each level of government building up to the presidency.

As part of the learning process, Preston had Louisville Mayor Will and State Senator Giles Ward speak to the students about their role in government and on how democracy works.

“We the people decide who we hire as president,” said Mayor Hill. “Voting is a distinct privilege of every American.”
