County, city officials updated on new 911 system

From press and staff reports

When an emergency happens, citizens depend on 911 and the city and county have added a new 911 system to better address those needs.

The InterAct system was activated at the beginning of November and the company’s representatives meet with officials to highlight the new features to help law enforcement, dispatchers, firefighters and other first responders as well as citizens.

Using a combination of the InterAct phones, CAD, and GIS systems, dispatchers can immediately pinpoint the exact location of a caller on a map. The call, whether from a cell phone or land line, is automatically recorded, attached to a CAD record, and distributed to appropriate first responders. This accelerates the emergency team’s ability to arrive on the scene and choose the best response to better save lives and protect property. This scalable solution can also be expanded to support multiple agencies, including those in surrounding cities and counties. The ability to share data among agencies and jurisdictions is critical to first responder safety and aids in front- line decision making.

With these integrated products, including InterAct phones, computer aided dispatch system (CAD), and geographic information system (GIS), the City of Louisville/Winston can significantly improve the speed and efficiency of emergency response to better protect the communities they serve according InterAct company representatives.

When the city’s previous equipment was phased out and would no longer be maintained by the company, the City of Louisville and Winston County began investigating new options. After a rigorous review process, including site visits and review of customer references, the city found that InterAct’s solution stood out as the best choice for their needs.

The InterAct software also offers a list software. One feature is the InterAct Online Records Management System, with this officers can make informed decisions in the field by gaining comprehensive, instantaneous access to images, vehicles, organizations, addresses, and other crime data. Additionally, the software simplifies incident filing and report management.

“We’re very proud to offer the most sophisticated yet easy-to-use RMS in the industry,” said Mike McGarry, Senior Vice President and General Manger of InterAct Products. “These are important capabilities for improving efficiency and safety.”

The system also offers Pocket Cop. PocketCop delivers mission critical data to handheld devices through an app. Officers can review crime data and case data with the app.

The company representatives highlighted other items that would help officers at crime scenes and when seeking suspects or answering 911 calls.
