From staff reports
A Relay for Life kickoff party will be held Thursday, Nov. 15
The event will be held at Winston Medical Center in the dining area at 5:30 p.m.
The event marks the start of the Relay for Life season and is an effort to recruit families, caregivers, cancer survivors, businesses and other organizations to support the largest fundraiser in the fight against cancer.
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is an overnight community celebration where teams collect donations and take turns walking or running around a track relay-style to raise funds to fight cancer. At nightfall, participants light luminary candles around the track to honor cancer survivors as well as remembering those lost to the disease. The 2013 Winston County event is set for Friday, May 17 at Louisville High
The goal of the kick-off party is the creation of at least 25 teams and to gain volunteers for the Relay for Life event and fundraising,
“We absolutely need more involvement from our community and we need teams, “ said Brandi Krajewski, ACS Relay for Life volunteer.
All interested persons are invited to the event and may also contact Krajewski at (662) 779-5111 for more information. Persons may also visit www.cancer.org for more information.
