Let’s Be Neighbors by Carolyn Mills

West Louisville Methodist Charge held a joint Halloween party at Pleasant Hill UMC on 4th Sunday night with hot dogs, hamburgers/ trimmings, chip and dips, homemade chilli and desserts served before games and a hayride.

It was for adults as well as the children, though some of us old folks did not join in on the games or hayride.

It was good to visit with Don and Carolyn Sisson at the party. Don has been fighting cancer for many months and Carolyn is glad she is off crutches.

Sherrie Wiygul is limping again because she fell on the knee she has been pampering for several months. Glenn Wiygul decided he could do without the Halloween stuff so he did not come with Sherrie.

Such unusual weather we are experiencing! Hurricane Sandy left the east coast devastated. Our hearts are saddened because of the terrible conditions left by the “Storm of the Century” as people are calling it. If you cannot do anything but send a few dollars to the Red Cross, do it.

The humming birds are gone now on their flight to warmer climates. A few stragglers might stop by, so keep fresh sugar water in your feeders.

My Camilla is blooming now, which is much earlier than usual. Last year it was in full bloom at Christmas. Another example of the unusual weather we are having.

I must correct an error made in last week’s column. I gave the operator of ANYTIME FITNESS the wrong name. One of the ladies in the class on Friday caught it and corrected me. The name given was Shawn Howard and heaven knows where I came up with that. Sue Anne Ryals gave me the correct name, but I cannot remember it at this writing. I will get it written down on Monday at our next exercise class.

Elaine Thompson asked me to remind everyone in this column about the Blue Star Memorial Highway Marker being unveiled at the Louisville By- Pass adjacent to the Exxon Service Station on Friday, November 9, at 11AM.

The marker is being sponsored by the Garden Clubs of our fair city to honor all those who have ever worn, or will ever wear, the uniform of our armed services. All veterans will be honored guests and everyone is invited to come out to the special program to show appreciation to veterans.

I will try to write about the Veterans Day program and the annual Stew Stomp held in Louisville on Saturday in next weeks column. You will already know who won what, but I might add a little extra, you might not know.

Did any of you see the beautiful rainbow over New York City after Sandy hit there? It was shown on TV and I am so glad to have gotten to see it. Please call me with news!
