Saturday, Nov. 3 will be a big day for downtown Louisville and Winston County as the Annual Stew Stomp and Veterans Parade will be held.

The Stew Stomp and new Sweet Tea Contest This year’s Stew Stomp will be a little sweeter as a Sweet Tea contest has been added to the event.

With one’s culinary skills, prizes for the stew contest can quickly add up. Stew winners will be vying for several cash prizes for cooking and decorations. Stew cooking winners will be chosen in three categories with winners able to win in all categories.

“We are still looking for cooking teams and sweet tea teams,” said Linda Skelton, Winston County Chamber director. “Someone is going to walk away with almost $5,000 in prizes.”

In the Stew Contest, winners will be awarded for: BOOTH DECORATIONS: 3RD place is $75;2nd place $150;1st place is $300. PEOPLES CHOICE IN STEW COMPETITION: 3rd place is $200; 2nd place is $350 and 1st place is $500. JUDGE╒S CHOICE IN STEW COMPETITION: 3rd Place is $300; 2nd Place is $600 and 1st Place is $1000 and the coveted Stew Trophy.

In the Sweet Tea contest sponsored by Pearl River Resort (Vegas with Sweet Tea), winners can earn: 1st Place is 50 minute Spa treatment for 2 and 2 night stay at the Golden Moon or Silver Star for 2; 2nd Place is Dinner for two at Phillip M’s and 1 night stay at the Golden Moon or Silver Star for 2; and 3rd Place is Dinner for 2 at the Villa.

Any group or persons interested in competing in the Stew or Sweet Tea contest should contact the Winston County Chamber of Commerce at 311 West Park Street Louisville or 662-773-3921 or www.winstoncountyms.com. The Chamber can provide full rules and details for both contests.

Attendees at the event may purchase a ticket to enjoy all the stews and teas for $5 and this allows each person with a ticket to vote in the People’s Choice portion of the contest.

Veterans’ Parade Winston County and the Winston County Chamber of Commerce will honor its military veterans with a Nov. 3 Veterans Day parade.

The parade will wind through downtown at 11 a.m., beginning at the Chamber of Commerce and ending at the monument. As part of the annual celebration, a wreath will be placed on the monument to honor the veterans.

“We hope this year’s parade will be even bigger and better than in the past,” said Skelton. “We greatly appreciate the participation of our local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and we invite other school groups to take part,” she said.

The chamber will be offering refreshments to the veterans prior to the parade as the veterans and others lineup to march in the parade.

Veterans are also invited to bring military memorabilia to be displayed now through Veterans Day to the following locations in Louisville: Charley McCool’s Prescriptions and Gifts, Tabor Drugs, Winston Furniture, Cuppa, The Jewel Shoppe and Market Cafe.

“These stores welcome your displays and Thank You for your service to our country,” said Skelton.

Jingle Bell Jubillee The merchants in Winston County plan to get into the celebration spirit as they host Jingle Bell Jubilee Holiday Open House on November 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and November 4 from noon to 4 pm,

The merchants will be offering special pricing to help kickoff the holiday season.
