Farmer’s market set for one more opening beforeclosing until next year

Last Hooray for this year only for the season that is!

Come dance and move with us this Thursday, Oct 18th, at 4PM at the city coliseum as we close out and celebrate a successful 2012 Winston County Farmers Market.

Let’s fill the parking lot with movement and music to show our support for local food and thank our hard working vendors and volunteers!!

The Coalition for a Healthy Winston County has been pleased to continue the farmers market in our community this year with dedicated volunteers and an Appalachian Regional Commission Sparkplugs grant.

Yes, we had some struggles. Anxious buyers had trouble waiting til 4:00 to shop. Farmers had limited produce since they could not be sure how much the community would buy. Many folks think we closed in August, so buyer numbers went down. Some technical and legal questions are still on the table for winter discussion.

BUT, market vendors and volunteers are committed to growing our local market each year – in volume and variety. We will definitely be back in the spring. Watch for opening dates here in the Journal and around town. If you want to grow or make items for next year, call Winston County Extension office at 773-3091.
