It’s Elementary by Brandy Blanton

Thanks so much to Aisha Roberson (Amaya’s mom) for the thoughtful donation of uniforms. Thank you also to Shalonda Triplett (Reagan’s mom) for her donation of uniforms to our clothing closet. Anyone who has gently used uniforms, shoes, or belts that you children have outgrown can donate those to the school. These will be put to good use and greatly appreciated.

Thank you to Cameshia Barksdale for volunteering to help with Box Tops. We will be collecting Box Tops all year long. Our goal this year is 7,000 Box Tops. Each student that brings in 10 Box Tops will receive a prize from the prize box. Please help us in reaching our goal. Thank you in advance for your support!

October 7th – 13th is National Fire Prevention Week. According to the National Fire Protection Association’s website ( Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. This year’s National Fire Prevention Week theme is “Have 2 Ways Out,” stressing the importance of having two escape routes in the event a fire strikes your home. Mr. Detrick Sanders and the Louisville Fire Department will be conducting fire safety education classes to students at Fair Elementary on October 16th.

This year’s cookie dough fundraiser was a huge success. Around $9,000 was raised for our school. We have already used some of the money to purchase 2 promethean boards for first grade classrooms, new tricycles for the kindergarten playground, classroom rugs, and 2 listening centers for reading classes. The students who sold the most cookie dough received cash prizes:

• 1st Place – Reagan Ammons -$100.00 • 2nd Place – Jodie Preston – $75.00 • 3rd Place – Joshua Ammons – $50.00 • 4th Place – Kaitlyn Thomas – $25.00 • 5th Place – Chelsea Curtis – $25.00

***For the first time since our school has been participating in cookie dough sells, we have siblings who won an extra $100 dollar cash prize for selling more than 75 tubs of cookie dough. Congratulations to Reagan and Joshua Ammons for selling more than 75 tubs of cookie dough!
