OCC invites citizens to participate

Is your church or organization involved in Operation Christmas Child? Do you want to be? Appoint someone to come to First Baptist Church Saturday September 29 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon to head up the drive in your church or organization. This will be the kick-off event for Operation Christmas Child in this area.

OCC Samaritan’s Purse, which was established by Franklin Graham, Dr. Billy Graham’s son, has changed the lives of children through Operation Christmas Child since 1993. Every year, generous people across the world lovingly pack shoe boxes with gifts – simple, yet powerful messages of God’s unconditional love.

When a child opens a shoe box, they’re opening more than a present lovingly prepared just for them. They’re opening up their community to a world of life-changing opportunities.

In many foreign countries children cannot go to school if they don’t have paper and pencil. The poorest families may use one composition book four times, carefully erasing the school work at the end of the school year and passing it along to another brother or sister.

The shoe boxes are filled with things such as:Something to love: Tedy bear, doll, soft toy, etc.

Something for school: composition book, pencil case, pens, pencils, coloring pencils, sharpener, eraser, chalk, etc. Something to wear: T-shirt, shorts, underwear, sandals, etc.

Something to play with” Tennis ball, cars, skipping rope, marbles, musical instrument, finger puppets, etc.

Something for personal hygiene: Soap and face wash, toothbrush, hairbrush etc.

Something special: Carry bag, sunglasses, bangles, etc.

This year, Dr. Franklin Graham would like to reach a goal of 100 million children touched through the Operation Christmas Child Boxes.
