Local student hopes to get some “cabbage” for his cabbage

From staff reports

One local student hopes to turn his 10-week project into a $1,000 scholarship.

Jermerio Glenn, 10, recently participated in the Bonnie Plants Third Grade Cabbage Program. The program awards one student from each state a $1,000 scholarship. A winning student submits a photograph of the full-grown cabbage and the student for an opportunity to win.

Glenn cared for the cabbage over a 10-week period making sure it was watered and bug free.

“He got up everyday and first checked on the cabbage,” said his mother Ruby Glenn.

Jermerio Glenn is the son of Ruby and Jerry Glenn.

The program began in 2002 and Bonnie Plants distributes more than one million free cabbage plants to 3rd Grade classrooms across the country. This variety of cabbage can grow up to 50 pounds in optimal conditions.
