After a 0-2 start for the Class 1A defending champion Noxapater Tigers, the team was looking for their first win in last Friday’s game against Kemper County. After four quarters of play, the Tigers came out with a 19-0 victory over the Wildcats.
The 1st quarter would begin with Kemper Co. receiving the game’s opening kickoff. Neither team would get anything going on their initial possessions.
With around six minutes to go in the quarter, the Tigers would strike first as quarterback Tyrell Carter would score on an 8-yard run for the game’s first touchdown. The PAT was no god, and the score was 6-0 Noxapater.
In the 2nd quarter, the Tigers would extend their lead as running back Trey Baber scored on a running play with around six minutes left. The PAT was no good, and the score was 12-0 going into halftime.
The 3rd quarter would see Baber score his second touchdown of the night on a pass from Carter to increase the Tigers’ lead. The PAT was good, and the score was 19-0.
Neither team would score for the rest of the game, making the final score 19-0.
For the Tigers’ offense, Carter was 5 of 15 in pass completions for 54 yards and one touchdown, as well as having 12 carries for 88 yards and one rushing touchdown. Baber had eight carries for 50 yards and one touchdown, while Keon Coburn had 12 carries for 41 yards.
Defensively, Jacoby Lewis led the team with 10 total tackles, including two sacks. Dustin McVay had 10 tackles and one sack as well. Justin Robertson had 8 tackles, while Trevara Miller had 5.
Up next for the Noxapater Tigers (1-2) will be their first division game of the season against Weir Lions (1-2). The Tigers defeated the Lions last season by a score of 34-18. The Tigers will look to start their journey back to the division title this Friday as they host Weir.
